Rafa Marquez fue objeto de un homenaje en su natal Zamora, Michoacán, México, y recibió las llaves de la ciudad de manos del Presidente Municipal Pablo Gutiérrez como zamorano distinguido. "Me siento feliz de ser zamorano y nunca olvidaré esta tierra y esta gente que me ha impulsado a seguir adelante", dijo el jugador del club Barcelona/Zamora, México 2 agosto 2007.
